Time To Breathe
What an amazing summer it has been. We’ve been having such a great time that it’s been hard to keep up with any news, to capture pictures or to post anything. Now, with a bit more time to breathe in the beautiful “almost fall” air, we have time to reflect on the fantastic summer we just had.
THANK YOU!!!
Jeremy and I want to thank all of our rowers and coaches for joining us for the summer. We know you’re not doing us any favours, that you truly enjoy it too - and that is JUST THE BEST! We love rowing with you, coaching with you and noticing and talking and learning about all the little things about life that we get to chatting about. People need people, and since we get together as a group, and then row on our own, this let’s us see everyone, and also have our own time on the water. Thank you for spending time with us on the water this summer.
For fall rowing this year, we have setup a system to row with others without a coach on the water. Some additional safety training is required for this, and if you are interested but are not yet on our fall rowing list, please email us at - info@hatchetsrowing.com and we can get you rowing.
MUSKOKA FALL CLASSIC - THIS SATURDAY SEPT 12th
COME WATCH AT GULL LAKE ROTARY PARK!
The EuroVan is all loaded up ready for the race tomorrow!
This weekend, Hatchets rowers will be racing at the Muskoka Fall Classic in Gravenhurst. This is a 3km race with interval start. This means that rowers are started one at a time. For this race it is every 20 seconds that a racer starts. Since this is such a close race to drive to, it is also a GREAT race to come and watch! There is no charge for parking, and our first racers start at 9:15 am. All of our racers will have finished by 1pm at the latest. Bring a lawn chair, some comfy warm clothing depending on the weather, some binoculars if you’d like and come and help us cheer on our rowers! This weekend we have the following rowers racing!
Jack Hollands - U19 Men’s Single (9:15am)
Oliver Veitch - U19 Men’s Single (9:15am)
Bill Verity - Senior Grand Masters Single (9:15am)
Robin Fowler - U19 Women’s Single (10:40am), U19 Women’s Double (11:50am, with Mahua Gupta, a rower from the Muskoka Rowing Club
CATCH-UP ON WEEKLY FOCUS
Well, if you look back through the newsletters - you’ll notice that I may have missed a few! With so many fun things going on, there was just not enough time! So I’m going to post all our technique tips here so that we can all have them to look back through, since our coaches did an excellent job of keeping the board updated!
HATCHETS INDIAN RIVER RELAY RECAP
This summer’s Indian River Relay saw some CLOSE competition between teams!
This is our very small fun regatta to compete for the prize of getting your hand prints painted on the dock. This year’s winning team was an all kids team!!! The winning team of Oliver Veitch, Robin Fowler and siblings Emily and Noah Wallace used their skill and strategy to finish faster than the other two teams. Congratulations!!
Our coaches took turns in the safety boat during the event, and some of our junior scullers got to join in.
L-R: Oliver, Emily, Noah. Missing from pic: Robin - as she had to return to work after racing during her break. It was worth the effort to coordinate the race with her team - as they got the fastest time for the year!
L-R: Javier, Jeremy, Miles, Scott. One of these rowers is definitely of a different stature then the rest on his team, but that didn’t limit his speed! Miles flew through this race and helped bring his team within seconds of the winning time!
L-R: Ben, Jack, Gavin and Kathy. What a great team I had! You may notice my stylish tank top - this was my grade 9 race uniform at Adam Scott CVI in Peterborough in 1995. I think it might have to make an annual appearance.
