HALFWAY POINT ALREADY!
At the end of this week we’ll be halfway through the Hatchets Summer season! As usual - we are running for 8 weeks. This is a funny summer, in that labour day has jumped ahead a week, so as far as school break - there are actually 10 weeks this summer. However, we are sticking to 8 weeks as our season works well that way, and at the end of the summer many are thinking about back to school and so not a lot of rowing is happening.
We’ve had lots of new people out rowing this year, and it is so amazing to see all of our rowers who learned to row last year doing so many kms this summer and looking so smooth and strong! This is the time of year when I start to really notice how strong I’m feeling, and as long as I remember to keep up the stretching, my body feels great!
Hatchets Event Weekend Coming Up!
Saturday, AUG 15th
Our annual event weekend is coming up for Hatchets. On August 15th we will be hosting two events.
MUSKOKA POKER RUN AUGUST 15th, 6am - 10AM
We are switching the format this year of the poker run. This will be our long group row. We will be leaving as a group and rowing approximately 12km to Baycliffe Beach in Milford Bay. We’ll take a break and have a snack and a drink and a swim, and then row 10km back! You are welcome to join with your own boat, or use one of ours. Racing shells or touring shells are great. We will have one safety boat on the water but may split up into two groups depending on speeds. In order to join this event, you should be able to comfortably row around Horseshoe Island during one of our regular rowing sessions (11km within a 90min session including equipment setup and take down). If you are not sure whether it’s a good fit - call (705-765-1939) or email to ask. For more details visit the event webpage here! Sign up in person, by Email or phone (705-765-1939)!
INDIAN RIVER RELAY
This is our annual local regatta to bring rowers of all abilities together in a sprint relay race. ALL ROWERS (of all skill levels) ARE WELCOME! If you have JUST learned to row have only rowed a couple times it may not be the right fit yet - but next year it will and you should come and watch and help this year! We always need photographers and timers! Teams of 4 of mixed abilities are created on the day of the race from the registered rowers. The event starts at 11am on August 10th at Hatchets Rowing Centre. It takes place in two touring singles, in which teammates take turns rowing 600m. The fastest team time for the day wins a big high five and the painting of their hand prints on the Hatchets Floor with all of the others since 2016! For more details visit the event webpage here! Sign up in person or by email or phone (705-765-1939). This is a fun, relaxed, social event, perfect for junior scullers, fitness rowers, competitive rowers! - we hope you can join us!

HATCHETS LEADERBOARD!
We’ve been updating our leaderboard, but sometimes it’s hard to keep up - which is a good thing! Here is the latest picture I have, but you can see the totals for distance at this link, and for the fish game and pull ups, those involved are in here to see the board every week anyway!
Our Leaderboard - if you’re name isn’t on here and you’d like to track your kms, let us know! We can easily create a tracking sheet for you!
